The Lines Moved Around Her — Now She’s Running: LaKyshia Godfrey for School Board District 6

Without ever changing her address, LaKyshia Godfrey has been a Whitesville Elementary parent, a Foxbank Elementary guardian, and now a Cane Bay Middle parent. The lines moved around her — she didn’t move. Now she’s running to represent District 6 on the Berkeley County School Board.
Her case is simple and lived: Cane Bay Elementary opened in 2009 with 5th graders in portables from day one. Cane Bay Middle opened in 2012 holding grades 5–8 — a structure most of the country doesn’t use. The district has since approved enrollment caps at Cane Bay schools, and neighboring schools and taxpayers absorb the strain. Growth keeps getting approved faster than the classrooms, buses, and teachers it requires.
LaKyshia’s platform: capacity planning tied to growth, transparent zoning so families know before they buy, real support for teachers in overcrowded classrooms, options for every kind of working family, accountability before decisions are made — and infrastructure that keeps pace, because Cane Bay neighborhoods and Whitesville Elementary flood today.
